Like I said before, I don’t have a lot of money. In fact, I’m broke. But every once in a while I get that “rockstar” mentality where I believe for at least a weekend I can spend every penny of my hard earned cash. This usually falls on the 10th and 25th of each month, or in short; when I get paid. Last weekend, was one of those weekends.
Per my last paycheck, I decided I needed to get something for me…whatever that means. I had my eye on the website ASOS.com and all of their peplum-styled tops in their Curve section. My skinny friends had been telling me this was a great spot for plus-size online shopping, and I had seen some pieces in a few fashion blogs so I had been dying to get something. I watched their videos of “plus size” models on the runway modeling the clothes I was considering. I settled on the ASOS CURVE Exclusive Peplum Top in Soft Jersey with Sleeves in Mint Green. This was taking a very long time to arrive (flying from England to California does take a week or so), so when my paycheck arrived, I was getting anxious about getting something new with all of this cash in my account.
I headed to my local Payless Shoe Store. I didn’t think I could do much damage there because I was going specifically for a shoe I already had, and that was it. However a pair of shoes caught my eye and the giant signs plastered all over the store announcing the “BOGO” sale had me sold. I purchased a pair of moccasins (not pictured) and a pair of black flats (not pictured) and my mom purchased a pair of shoes for me to receive these shoes 1/2 off. No clue how to wear them, no clue what to wear them with, but I love them. If you have any tips on these (for the less fashionable..AKA myself – please leave them in the comments!)
But no, it didn’t stop at Payless as you can imagine. We headed to Forever 21 which carries the Forever 21+ line. I was overwhelmed with what they had in store. So many things I wanted to buy, but certainly not enough money, paycheck or not. I went in there for another pair of “skinny” jeans (I hate that name by the way. Why can’t they just be jeans?), but ended up purchasing a pair of jeans, a new necklace, and a dress for an upcoming wedding.
I definitely love this dress. The color is great with my dark hair, it’s flattering, and I can wear it with heels I already have. The wedding is in April so this will be perfect. Like I said, I also bought a pair of jeans but I don’t need post a picture of those. If anyone wants to see, leave a comment I will post one for you! The other purchase from Forever 21 was this necklace, which I thought would look great with the shirt I ordered from ASOS.
Of course, a trip to the mall for my mom and I wouldn’t be complete if we didn’t take a peek at Old Navy. Honestly, I’ve been pretty disappointed with Old Navy lately. The prices have definitely jumped a lot. Simple shirts have become way overpriced and it has definitely pushed me away from there. However, I know that they have their reasoning so I can’t really complain, I know it’s a competitive market. Anywho, when I do go to Old Navy, I check out what’s on sale, or what’s in the clearance section. I ended up finding a shirt for $10 that I LOVED and because I was returning a shirt my mom purchased me for Christmas, I actually got money back. This shirt was a major win, and will be perfect for spring.
Although I had some shopper’s remorse for my heavy purchases in one day, I decided it’s best to take a few risks for a bigger picture; a better me. When I went home, I was excited to find that my shirt from ASOS had arrived. I tried it on with my new necklace, and it was perfect. I actually think the peplum is a flattering style. It hits right above where my stomach is and flares so I feel comfortable.
So in the end I spent a little bit more money then I would have liked, but I feel like I got some great pieces that I can mix and match with other things. I do feel proud of myself. I am purchasing items I never would have purchased before, and definitely putting myself out there. Last night I went out and forgot to snag a picture but I wore the above outfit except with my new shoes instead of boots. I looked great and felt confident. It was nice for a change. Sometimes you need to do a little something for yourself.

Those shoes are sooo cute! I think you can even wear them with the beautiful dress you got, you can wear them with black leggings and a denim blouse, printed leggings or dark blue jeans, black top or blazer, green jeans and a white top, I could go for hours! lol have fun looking for ways to wear them!
Thank you for the tips! Love the ideas! I was thinking the denim top/black leggings look. Still trying to find a plus size/long denim blouse!
